Addicted to acrylic inks

February 3, 2018

Before I started working on YUPO paper and inks, I regularly switched between acrylics and watercolors, depending on my mood. Although I enjoyed the outcome of these mediums, I always lacked confidence during the early stages of those paintings - the gangly phase as I like to call it. I'm not gonna lie, I also found it boring; still do.  While I am one of the most patient people you'll ever meet, I'm an 'instant gratification' kind of gal when it comes to my art.  I want to be entertained by my medium and watch as it morphs, moves and merges on the paper. I want to be shocked by color the moment it stains that pure white background. Inks and YUPO gave me that, and after 4 years, our love affair is still exciting and spontaneous.

The above video of me working on Goat is a perfect example of this.  Watch as the inks glide on the surface of the paper like butter on a slice of fresh baked bread.  The ears are a lovely combination of blues and greens swirling together and with one little spray of water from my bottle, textures bloom outward to a soft finish. I never know how a painting will turn out and truly, that's the magic of it all.
